Summer Highlights

Pleasantries+Summer.jpg

Labor Day Weekend is here and summer is officially winding down, but boy was it a good one! We kept ourselves busy at Pleasantries Adult Day Services with field trips, theme weeks, art projects, music, pet therapy and lots of games and fun outdoors in the sun. We are looking forward to all that fall has to offer, with the crisp air and changing leaves, but in the meantime, we wanted to share some highlights from this summer!

Field Trips

This summer, we continued our regular field trips to Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston and were just there yesterday, enjoying the late-summer blooms. Plus, we cheered on the Worcester Bravehearts at a baseball game in July and in true New England fashion, dined out on clams at Harry’s Restaurant in Westborough.

Theme Weeks

In June, we celebrated Pet Appreciation Week with pet craft activities and visits from Ashland Girl Scout Troop 76017 and Tally Ho (one of our favorite dogs), plus our own visit to Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton (read more here). In July, we celebrated ‘Travels Around the World’ with an exciting week exploring cultures, stories, music and food from around the world. We cooked dishes from Croatia, West Africa, Indonesia and Sweden to honor special places our guests have lived and traveled to. Everyone loved trying new dishes and flavors, especially the Indonesian Beef Rendang in honor of Nicola! And this month, we had a ‘Beach Theme’ week and more.

Art & Music Therapy

We welcomed art therapist, Anna Wolen, to Pleasantries this summer, who has been visiting us on a bi-weekly basis. And we just welcomed music therapist, Monika Gibbons, who will be doing the same. Music and art are a great means of self expression for our guests, and the visits from Anna and Monika keep our guests socially engaged and mentally stimulated. They love remembering and singing old songs together, and spending time on their beautiful artwork that we put on display when completed!

Enjoying the Outdoors

No summer is complete without some fun outdoors, and our unique, lakefront setting is so picturesque. We’ve spent plenty of time out on our deck playing games or under the shade of our great dogwood tree, we’ve had Friday BBQs, spent time by the lake, dipping our toes in the water and enjoying the shade at our lake. We’ve been gardening and enjoying the fruits of our labor, like the dozens of tomatoes we grew(!), and even treated guests to a fun visit from the Trombetta’s Farm ice cream truck.

All in all, we’ve shared lots of laughter, new experiences and smiles these past few months. Our focus at Pleasantries is on creating a better day for everyone, and we’re pretty happy that we did just that and so much more this summer.
